Can we be married under the age of 18 yrs?
Yes. Only after application is made for permission to be granted by a Judge.

Does a bride have to change her maiden name?
No. However, she may choose to hyphenate her name.

Do we need to have witnesses?
Yes. You will need two, and the witnesses must be over the age of 18 years, and do not have to be related to you.

Can I marry a person of the same sex?
No. This is not lawful in Australia. However, I do perform Commitment Ceremonies which are not gender or religious biased. These are a very special commitment by the couples involved who love each other, but cannot for some personal reasons enter into a legal marriage.

Do I have to have someone give me away?
No.

Who can give me away?
Either of you may have who ever you wish give you away. It may be your parents, your children, siblings or friends.

Is it necessary to have a wedding ring?
No. This is a personal choice.

If we come from overseas, are we able to be married in Sydney ?
Yes. If you have met all the legal requirements and your necessary documents are duly filled out and signed within the time limit.

Is it necessary for us to have papers which are in foreign language translated in English?
Yes. This must be done by an accredited translater and I will need to sign these and complete the Notice of Intended Marriage form.

Are you able to assist us with information on venues, photographers, flowers, etc?
Yes. I will be happy to help you with any advice.

Are we able to get married any time of the day or night?
Yes. 24/7

Do we have to write our own ceremony?
Yes & No. There are some legal requirements according to the laws of Australia, however, most couples like to personalize parts of their ceremony and I will guide you and give you advice. If you wish to write parts of your own.

Is a marriage performed in Sydney/Australia recognized legally world wide?
